SICHTBARE MUSIK, VOKALE BILDER - TRIO FRAGILE IN UNSERER SCHULE
Ungefähr dreißig oder vierzig Zuschauer sahen die Aufführung des Trios am 23. November im Keila Gymnasium, bei der die Entstehung von zwei Gemälden Tõnu Talves mit dem Motiv der Stadt Keila durch den Klang und die musikalischen Rhythmen getragen wurden. Er schenkte eines der Bilder dem Keila Gymnasium und das andere der Stadtverwaltung.
Das Trio FRAGILE ist ein Gruppe, die Musikimprovisationen mit Kunst kombiniert. Sie haben 3 Musikalben veröffentlicht - "Manifest" ('98), "Õunapuu Osakas" ('00) und "Saad" ('04). Seit über 10 Jahren sind sie in dieser Konstellation aktiv, die den Gitarristen Robert Jürjendal, Schlagzeuger Arvo Urb und den Maler Tõnu Talve verbindet. Wie das Ganze begonnen hat, erläutert Tõnu Talve im Folgenden:
"Am Anfang, vor 11 Jahren war das Trio FRAGILE noch ein Duo FRAGILE: Robert Jürjendal als Gitarrist und ich als Maler. Eines Tages bat Tõnis Mägi Robert als Komponisten vieler Lieder, an Mägis Sendung ETV als Ko-Autor mitzuwirken. Um es interessanter zu gestalten, dachte ich daran, die Songs visuell zu entwerfen. So entstand die Idee, live mit Musik zu malen. Ich kann sagen, dass Tõnis, als Mitwirkender bei unserer Zusammenarbeit, Pate des Trios FRAGILE ist. Nach dieser Show auf ETV kamen viele Angebote, und nach einiger Zeit stellten ich und Robert fest, dass das Ensemble ein Schlagzeug benötigte. Ich erfand den Namen "FRAGILE“ (zerbrechlich), kurz bevor Arvo Urb - der Schlagzeuger – zu uns stieß, und jeder schien es zu mögen.
Tõnu Talve zeigt seine Ausstellungen seit über 15 Jahren, aber die bedeutendsten fanden in den letzten Jahren statt, unter dem generellen Kürzel "KA". Die "KA-8" fand letztes Jahr in Tartu, im Foyer des Vanemuise Konzerthauses statt. Ants Juske, Doktor der Kunstwissenschaft, hat diese Ausstellungsreihe mit ins Leben gerufen. Über die Vorführungen des Trios sagt Talve das Folgende: "Ich war mit FRAGILES wenigen Videos, deren Autor und Ko-Direktor ich bin, in Helsinki, in Stockholm, in Istanbul, in Barcelona und in Viseus, Portugal, wo der Lehrerkongress InSEA stattfand. Während des diesjährigen InSEA Kongresses in Portugal war Trio FRAGILE in einem der Kongressgremien vertreten und gab die „Kunstlektion 1"."
Tõnu Talves Bilder sind in Finnland, in Schweden, in Russland, in Deutschland, in Portugal, in der Türkei, in Kanada und in den USA zu finden.
Am 23. November gab es eine Vorführung von Trio FRAGILE in unserer Schule. Die Show begann mit Robert Jürjendals ruhigem Gitarren-Solo, danach folgte Arno Kalbus' (als Ersatz für Arvo Urb, der nicht kommen konnte) sanfter Trommelschlag.
Nach wenigen Momenten begann Tõnu Talve zu malen. Seine Bewegungen waren genau und kühn, aber auch einfach und genussvoll. Man kann es so beschreiben, dass auf der Bühne im Spiel von Musik und Farben alles gleichzeitig entstand. Beim Malen trug Talve abwechselnd unterschiedliche Farben auf: orange, schwarz, rosafarben, blau, weiß usw., die die in der Musik gesammelte Energie widerspiegelten. Von diesem Zeitpunkt an malte Talve sicherer und ausdrucksvoller. Die vierte Person auf der Bühne - der Kameramann - holte eine doppelte Wirklichkeit auf den Bildschirm und filmte die Gesichter und Bewegungen des Malers und der Musiker. Am Ende des Malprozesses betrachtete Talve seine Gemälde mit Abstand, um sicher zu gehen, dass sie vollendet waren. Nach kurzem Überlegen nahm er die Farben wieder zur Hand und fügte einige kühne Linien hinzu. Erst jetzt waren die Bilder fertig. Eine Stunde war vergangen und die Vorführung beendet.
Trio FRAGILEs Musikstil ist schwer einzuordnen, aber ich kann sagen, dass sie ihre eigene Art gefunden haben, was sie nur noch spezieller macht. Robert Jürjendal hat über Musik gesagt: "Die CDs sind Studioarbeiten und die Konzerte Improvisationen. Es ist keinesfalls programmatische Musik, sondern freie Improvisation, die auf überall vorhandener sog. weißer Energie basiert, hiervon ist Tõnu Talve mit seinem "offenen Malprozess" ebenfalls Teil.“
Die Mitglieder von Trio FRAGILE bezeichnen sich als ein Ambiente Projekt mit Gitarre, Elektronik, Schlagzeug und live Gemälden, denn auf der Bühne machen sie gleichzeitig Musik und Kunst. Tõnu Talve sagte, dass für die einstündige Performance eine sorgfältige und ausgefeilte Arbeit sowohl auf künstlerischer wie auch auf musikalischer Ebene vollbracht werden muss.
Tõnu Talve dankt für das Interesse und die Anerkennung, die ihm während seines Aufenthalts in der Schule seitens der Lehrer und der Schüler entgegengebracht wurden.

CHAMBER MUSIC AND ART WITH TÕNU TALVE
I walked along the autumn Street, and then along the Spring Street, and arrived at the Westholm Gymnasium, to the concert of the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra; Tõnu Talve´s open painting session being part of the program.
There was a screen above the stage of the large hall of the school. The orchestra had been placed in front of it. On the right hand was a canvas on the easel and paints for the artist. Children were gathering. The musicians tuned their instruments and started to play, Händel´s Concerto grosso G-sharp op 6 No 1; then The Passion by Erkki Sven Tüür and finally Händel´ s Concerto grosso B-sharp op 6 No 7. The artist stepped on the stage and started to paint.
Listening to Händel in this beautiful hall with a high ceiling, I was thinking of the time of Baroque, when playing music was first and foremost a social event; of Baroque castles, where the walls and vaults were decorated with mythological compositions by Pietro da Cortona and other artists. The theatrical era of Baroque turned everything into a play with elements of music and carnival. The artists at that time must have been perfect psychologists and salesmen, making their work fascinating through the effects of light and shade, illusion, and the human body rendered in a variety of poses. Also through the dimensions that sometimes completely deceive the human eye, which may take a courtier, leaning on the balustrade on the other side of a hall, for a real person.
Talve was working simultaneously on two canvases. I recognised his favourite motif, the lighthouse, on one picture. The schoolboys were snickering a little bit at the movement of his hand falling into the rhythm of the music. The cold colours and deserted backgrounds of Talve´s paintings sometimes make me think of Dali´s dream fantasies, maybe of a giraffe that might suddenly emerge out of nothingness.
A cameraman was walking around and filming everything. Through his camera the action was projected on the screen: the artist´s hand, the bowing violinists, or faces of the children, who were watching and listening.
I was contemplating, that different arts approach each other actively today. The other characteristic strive is: to make a film about everything, that is going on. (It is no secret that almost each artstudent nowadays dreams of a film director´s career.) These two things have something in common with the Baroque culture. Talve’s show was simultaneously perceived as in film and live, which enriched the experience in many different ways: one could see the picture as a whole, and closeups of the texture at the same time, as well as other aspects. In a way, it gave the whole thing kind of a Pollockian spontaneity, a feeling that perhaps the process is sometimes more important than the picture, and a possibility to look at the picture like at a document registering everything, that the artist has done in the process of painting.
One could also look at the show as a collage, that speculates with different social values and meets the viewer’s interest. While the postmodernist architecture is borrowing many different tricks from the entertainment, why cannot the painting do the same? The many-sided use of audio-visual means at the Westholm gymnasium was certainly very inventive and inspiring.
Later I went to another concert at a different school, where St Paul’s Suite op 29 by Holst was played, as well as Heino Eller’s Five pieces for the string orchestra, and finally Bela Bartok’s Romanian dances.This very beautiful and expressive program inspired the artist to choose colors, that reminded of the warm sunshine in a southern country. So Talve showed us, how a painter takes the immediate atmosphere that surrounds him while painting, whether he really thinks about it or not. Music inspires him, and the picture that he in painting, inspires the audience, who has a chance to test one’s susceptibility, and takes an original experience home with him.

About thirty or forty people watched Trio Fragile’s performance on November 23rd in Keila Gymnasium, where Tõnu Talve’s two paintings of Keila were borned by the sounds and rhytms of music. He gave one of the paintings to Keila Gymnasium and the other to the City Government.
Trio Fragile is a collective, what combines improvisational music and art. They have published 3 music albums – “Manifest” (’98), “Õunapuu osakas” (’00) and “Saad” (’04). Together they’ve operated over 10 years, combining guitarist Robert Jürjendal, percussionist Arvo Urb and painter Tõnu Talve. How it all got started, tells Tõnu Talve the following: “Trio Fragile was at the beginning, 11 years ago, Duo Fragile: Robert Jürjendal as guitarist and me as a painter on a frosted glass. Coincidentally Tõnis Mägi asked Robert, as a creator of many songs, to participate in Mägi’s ETV broadcast as co-author. To make it more interesting, I thought to design the songs visually. This is how the idea to paint live with music came from. I can say that Tõnis, as a participator in our co-operation, is Trio Fragile’s godfather. After that show on ETV there were many offers to perform and after some time me and Robert realized that ensemble needs drums. I made up the name “Fragile” just before Arvo Urb – the drummer – joined us and everybody seemed to like it.
Tõnu Talve has made exhibitions over 15 years, but most considerable of them have appeared in past few years, with general name “KA”. In few moments Tõnu Talve started to paint. His moves were accurate and bodacious, but also simple and enjoyable. It can be said that on the stage the game of music and colour appeared at the same time. While painting, Talve added many colours alternately: orange, black, pink, blue, white etc. Music collected energy and from that time Talve painted assuredly and more powerful. The fourth person on the stage – the cameraman – brought double reality on the screen, filming painter’s and musicians faces and moves. At the end of painting, Talve looked his pictures from the distance, to be sure if they are ready. After short thinking, he took the colours again and added some dashing lines. Only after this the paintings were ready. One hour passed and the show was over.
Trio Fragile’s music style is hard to specify, but I can say that they have found their own style, which makes them even more special. Robert Jürjendal has said about music that: “The CD’s are studio-work and the concerts – improvisation.
